The following exercise and diet programs have been reviewed. Our findings are below.

Nutrisystem

You've probably heard or seen the commercials on TV - lose weight while eating delicious meals and never feel hungry. We've all heard that before. The Nutrisystem diet is based in sound science by focusing on the glycemic index. The food is decent for frozen meals, and I wasn't really ever hungry on it. I did lose weight, although at a fairly slow rate of about 1 pound a week. I have about 60lbs to lose so I generally expect to lose closer to 3 lbs a week on a diet. While the food is decent, its not something I would want to eat for the rest of my life. When I went off the program I began to very slowly gain the weight back - in 3 months I'm up 2 lbs.

Bottom Line: This is an ok diet plan for people who don't want to cook their own meals. The food is ok, the portions are ok, the weight loss is ok. To really lose the weight with Nutrisystem I would recommend adding at least 45 minutes of cardio a day to the program.

Master Cleanse Secrets 10 Day Diet

The Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet has been around for years. You basically take fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper with water, and drink this solution around 8-12 times a day. You also drink a laxative tea 2 times a day. You have to fast, so you can't eat any other food. The Master Cleanser diet is usually done for 10 straight days.

So do you lose weight on the Master Cleanse diet? Yes. Quite a bit of weight. However, most people gain at least half of that weight back immediately upon eating real food again. The weight loss results tend to be drastic because you aren't eating, but this presents its own set of health risks.

If you are looking for drastic weight loss, this may be a good option for you. Many people use the Master Cleanse to drop 10 or 15 pounds for a class reunion, wedding, or other special event. This is perfect because you don't mind gaining some of the weight back after the event is over. Because the cleanse involves fasting, it is important to talk to a doctor before trying the Master Cleanse - the list of health conditions that this is NOT good for is long and plentiful.

Bottom Line: It works great for losing a lot of weight fast, but the weight comes back and the diet doesn't seem particularly healthy.
