The Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet has been around for years. You basically take fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper with water, and drink this solution around 8-12 times a day. You also drink a laxative tea 2 times a day. You have to fast, so you can't eat any other food. The Master Cleanser diet is usually done for 10 straight days.
So do you lose weight on the Master Cleanse diet? Yes. Quite a bit of weight. However, most people gain at least half of that weight back immediately upon eating real food again. The weight loss results tend to be drastic because you aren't eating, but this presents its own set of health risks.
If you are looking for drastic weight loss, this may be a good option for you. Many people use the Master Cleanse to drop 10 or 15 pounds for a class reunion, wedding, or other special event. This is perfect because you don't mind gaining some of the weight back after the event is over. Because the cleanse involves fasting, it is important to talk to a doctor before trying the Master Cleanse - the list of health conditions that this is NOT good for is long and plentiful.
Bottom Line: It works great for losing a lot of weight fast, but the weight comes back and the diet doesn't seem particularly healthy.
